Know About Mobile Commerce

Mobile Commerce is commerce or buying or selling of products or services through wireless handheld devices like mobile phone or cell phone, PDA’s (Personal Digital Assistants), and Smartphones. Users have access to the Internet via mobile devices. One of the most important and emerging technologies behind m-commerce or mobile commerce is WAP (Wireless Application Protocol). Some other technologies used are Bluetooth, microbrowsers, GPRS–wireless service based on GSM, EDGE (Enhanced Data rate for Global Evolution) etc.
Short Message Service or SMS has complemented m-commerce. It is considered as a subset or another form of Electronic Commerce. Some of the advantages of mobile commerce are it is a lightweight device, m-commerce can be done anywhere at any time, connects buyer and seller and ensures close customer relationship and high profits. Along with these advantages, there are few disadvantages such as a small screen of the mobile device limits the view, graphics cannot be displayed, the processing power of the computer cannot be matched with the processing power of a handheld device. These disadvantages will overcome as GPRS and 3G come in the limelight.

Mobile commerce can be used for various transactions, for financial services, information services etc. In financial services users can access their account through mobile phones also called mobile banking. Users can pay bills using their mobiles. This is possible either the money gets deducted from their mobile phone or it can be deducted from a pre-paid deposit. Users can also get the facility to transfer money between accounts whereas the Information services allow users to receive news, sports update, ringtones etc on their cell phones for a nominal cost.
